Who We Are

Blood Sweat & Food Farms was founded by four friends who believe in one thing: great food! Food with no B.S. that is good for the land, the animals, and the people that tend them.

We start from the ground up, literally, and focus on building great soil first. From the moment we touch a field or forest, and long before we plant our pasture or garden, we're working to build sensational soil. One of the best ways to do this is to use animals as nature intended. We let our pigs be pigs, rooting in the ground, eating horsetail (yes, horsetail!), and breaking new ground. Our ducks and geese are always on the lookout for slugs and little weeds. The sheep keep the grass trimmed to the perfect height for our pasture-raised chickens to come behind and scratch for bugs. We use a pasture rotation system to make sure that all the animals are doing what they do best and constantly moving across the fresh ground.

While all these critters are out and about, food is going in one end and you-know-what is coming out the other. We're talking poop. Gorgeous, perfect poop. What is usually a waste stream in large, concentrated industrialist agriculture (CAFOs, feed lots, etc.) causing toxicity problems for people and the environment, is a resource when used and distributed properly over living soil. Add a sprinkle of fish, seaweed, and wood chip compost to the field and you're building healthy soil and happy plants and animals.
